Floyd William McGillivray

Born: 1/15/1930
Died: 4/17/2020
Age: 90
Community: Clio, MI

McGILLIVRAY, Floyd W., 90, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17, 2020.

Floyd was born in Bad Axe, Michigan, on January 15, 1930, to Floyd and Henrietta (Gall) McGillivray. When he was a year old, they moved to Bay Port where he lived until he was 18. He graduated from Bay Port High School where he was the President of the Senior Class of 1948. On November 13, 1948, he married Grace Henne. They had five children, Diane, Bill (Floyd Jr.), Linda, Larry, and Susan. They moved to Clio in 1951 and in 1959, started a furniture and appliance store known as McGillivray’s Furniture and Appliance. Floyd and Grace ran the business together with a partner, James Perkins, until 1982. Floyd enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and being a part of the Masonic family of Vienna Lodge #205. He was a Shriner and enjoyed many Shrine events. Floyd enjoyed being around people and proved this by many years of being a salesman—furniture, cars, manufactured homes, and plumbing supplies. He retired from Vic Bond Sales in 2010 at the age of 80. Floyd loved his family and spending time being a dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa to all 49 of us. He was quiet about his faith—he lived it instead of talking about it, but he showed it to each of us in his own unique, loving way. He loved a good party and was always ready to jump in the car and head out on an adventure. He never met a stranger and passed this trait on to many of his grandchildren. Floyd loved to have family gatherings and he loved to eat good food. Floyd enjoyed many trips to Florida with his brother-in-laws and their wives and came home telling great stories about the fish that got away. Floyd was very proud of the fact that he and Grace enjoyed 64 years of marriage before her death.

Floyd is survived by: Children: Diane (Stephen) Weaver, of Clio; Floyd (Chris) McGillivray Jr., of Fort Wayne, IN., Susan (William) Atwell of Bernallilo, NM; Daughter-in-law, Mely McGillivray of Groton, Ct; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; Brother, J. Larry (JoAnn) Gall of Hillsdale, MI, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd McGillivray, Elmer Gall, Henrietta Gall; Wife, Grace; Daughter, Linda; Son, Larry; Sisters: Patricia and Alice Jean.

The family would like to thank all of the nursing staff at both Durand Senior Care and Maple Woods Manor for their loving care of Floyd during his stay with them. We would especially like to thank Stephanie Brazeal and Angela at Maple Woods for their loving words and kindness to Dad during his final days and for always keeping us informed.
