Robert W. Allen Sr., 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2020 at his home in Grand Blanc, MI. He was born in Ashtabula, OH and was one of six children. Robert (Bob) was an active member of Holy Redeemer Church serving as an usher for many years and active in the Knights of Columbus. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 and served during WWII and the Korean War from 1943-1952. He attended the Navy School of Princeton University and was commissioned as an Ensign. He was a proud patriot and veteran. After the war, he started his career in Engineering at Owen Illinois Glass in Toledo, OH. He was instrumental in redesigning the gallon round glass milk jug to be square for better fit in the refrigerator. After leaving Owen Glass he furthered his career at Sheller Globe in Union City, IN from 1966-1972. He was part of the set up of the new plant as Chief Die Casting Engineer making many contributions in design for the automotive industry. From there, Bob moved to Grand Blanc, MI and became the VP of Sales and Engineering at Flint Manufacturing until retirement in 1996. He was an active bowler while living in Toledo and then became a very active golfer. Bob was a member of Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club and a past President of the Club. He even achieved a hole-in-one at the very difficult course where the Buick Open was played. When he wasn't golfing, he was very competitive playing cards with family and friends. He was known by family and friends as someone who could fix or improve anything. He would much rather fix it than replace it. He was preceded in death by his wife (Jean) of 58 years, his brother and sisters, grandson (Michael). He is survived by his daughters: Andree Allen Brown (James), Carol Allen Raczkowski, Karen Allen and son Robert Allen Jr. (Patty). Grandchildren: Jerry Foster II, Stacy Foster Thames (Thomas), Dustin Foster (Samantha), Robert Allen III, Nicole Allen. Great Grandchildren: Zachry Foster, Bailey Foster, Evan Foster, Leo Foster. Private service to be held at Hill Funeral Home followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery. |
