Died: 4/19/2015
Age: 91
Community: Henderson, MI

Dora Doris Overholt, 91, of Henderson, heard her Lord and Savior as He welcomed her to His Heavenly home on Sunday evening April 19, 2015. She was born October 6, 1923 to her parents Clarence and Inez Bellen in Merrill, MI. She had a challenging but enjoyable childhood. Her mother taught her all the homemaking and caregiver skills while her father taught her to be a great farm hand. Their farm was located across the road from the Bellen School outside Merrill which allowed a great location for the school teachers to room and board with the family. Doris graduated from Merrill High School and the Bible Holiness Seminary in Owosso, MI. While at the seminary, she met Claude Addison Overholt whom she married on July 19, 1946 at her parent's home. Following graduation, they moved to Kansas where they pastored in Pilgrim Hiliness and Wesleyan Churches for 42 years. Following their retirements, they moved to Cadillac, Michigan where they were very active in the Cadillac Wesleyan Church. While there, Doris suffered from several strokes which added new limitations to her life but instead of becoming bitter, she chose to become better. She continued to live a full life of working in the church, letter-writing, homemaking, and cooking in which she was very proficient. Doris moved to Oakley in 2000 where she attended the Oakley Community Church. The last 10 years, she lived in Henderson with her daughter Rebecca. Although she was bedridden, she still exemplified her steadfast faith in her Savior.

Doris is survived by her four children Avis (Jack) Ward of Traverse City, Paul Overholt of Oakley, John (Deanna) Overholt of Olathe, Kansas and Rebecca (James) Schwartzkopf of Henderson; six grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Eric) Mueller of Laytonsville, Maryland, Amy (Clint) Childs and Amanda (Jeff) Malnar of Olathe, Kansas, Julie Schwartzkopf of Henderson, Preston (Teysha) Overholt of Henderson and Jerika Overholt of Henderson; seven great-grandchildren, Annika, Logan and Quincy Malnar, Grace and Carlyn Mueller, Katherine and Christopher Childs. She was looking forward to the arrival of her eighth great-grandchild in May. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Yvonne Abernathy of Flint and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, her parents, sister Mildred, brother and sister-in-law Roy and Majorie Bellen, aunts, uncles and cousins several members of her husband's family.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00am Saturday, May 9 at the Owosso Wesleyan Church in Owosso at the corner of Washington and Stewart. The family will receive friends at 10:00am with the service following at 11:00am. Norm Whittum of Cadillac will officiate.

A memorial is suggested to the Owosso Memorial Hospice. The family would like to thank them for the wonderful care they gave.
