WILLIAMS, Mr. Willard - Age 87, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Grand Blanc Rehabilitation Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Wiliams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Willard “The Waxer” Williams was born July 15, 1925 in Pioneer, Louisiana, the son of Robert Williams and Susie (Kenner) Williams, Sr. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary (Savage) Williams in 1945 to this union six children were born. They moved to Flint, Michigan in 1950 and he soon joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Williams was employed by General Motors Corporation for 50 years as a Machine Operator and was a member of UAW Local 599. In 1953 he opened a successful car detailing shop, making him renowned for his impeccable wax and detailing jobs. He employed many family members, teaching them his craft and giving them the chance to develop a good work ethic and earn a few dollars. Mr. Williams was a man of faith with a deep love for God and always known to visit family, friends, and bring a smile to all. Although, he was a small stature, he was a giant in the hearts of family; he loved a good home cooked meal, especially dessert, and to be surrounded with family.
He is survived by: wife of 67 years, Mary Williams; daughters, Jaqueline (Roland) Jones of Thompson’s Station, TN, Shirley (Norman) Brackins of Burton, MI, Joyce (Lonnie) Linscomb of Grand Blanc, MI, Debra Williams, Lisa (Jeffrey) Mitchell, all of Flint; son, Ralph Williams of Flint; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Susie Dunn of Detroit, MI; brother, Clemon Williams of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Ray Money.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his son, Willard Williams, Jr.; parents, Robert and Susie Williams, Sr.; brothers, Robert, Jr., Cornelius, Lacie and Lemon; sisters, Aretha McNeeley, Mildred Allen, Artrie Waters, Velma Campbell and Gussie Spencer.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Dr. Major A. Stewart and the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church family, McLaren-Flint 4th floor staff, the staffs of SelectCare and River Bend, family and friends.
