SMITH, Donald – Of Grand Blanc, age 91, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Abbey Park Assisted Living.
Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Halsey United Methodist Church, 10006 Halsey Road, Grand Blanc, (Corner of Baldwin Road and Halsey Road) Reverend Dr. Tara Sutton officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Those desiring may make contributions to Glen Lake Community Reformed Church.
Visitation 12:30 p.m. Sunday at church until the time of the service.
Donald was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on January 5, 1925, the son of the late Herbert and Agnes (Hulett) Smith.
He served in the U.S. Army.
On June 22,1946 he married Helen Balhoff in Fort Knox, Kentucky and she preceded him in death on October 31, 2014.
He was instrumental in Clio D.D.A.
He was on the Finance Committee at Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio and a member of the Clio Chamber of Commerce.
He loved playing golf and was a longtime member of the Clio Country Club.
Mr. Smith owned Don’s Bootery, Petitts and Ray’s Toggery, with Ray Frisbie in Clio.
Surviving are sons, Brad and wife Andrea Smith of Ada, Michigan,
Jeff and wife Lorie Smith of Grand Blanc;
5 grandchildren, Kyle and wife Cheryl Smith of Washington DC,
Cameron and wife Caitlyn Smith of Grand Rapids,
Lauren Smith of Royal Oak,
Ryan Smith of New York and
Kara Smith of Ada, Michigan;
sister-in-law, Roberta Smith of Ann Arbor;
many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to staff at Abbey Park, Reformation Home Health and Medical Team Hospice and Medical Team.
He was preceded in death by brother, Phil.
