Virginia Elizabeth Wells Johnson (Ginny), age 95, passed away on September 1, 2020. Born in Arrington, Virginia to Lawrence and Corinne (Ponton) Wells. She lived most of her childhood in Roanoke and Lynchburg, VA; moving to Forest, VA in high school. She graduated from New London Academy and then attended Farmville State Teacher’s College (now Longwood University) in Farmville, VA. She moved to Oakridge, TN to work as a stenographer during WWII. There she met her husband and love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Johnson the first day she arrived. They were married at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, TN in 1945. After Jerry’s discharge from the Navy, they moved to Council Bluffs Iowa and then to Flint in 1947 for Jerry to teach at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University). Ginny received her BS degree from the University of Michigan Flint and her MA degree from Eastern Michigan University. She taught first grade at Gundry Elementary and then second grade and kindergarten at Civic Park Elementary. She was a member of Oak Park Methodist Church until it closed in 2004. She then became a member of Court Street United Methodist Church until her death. Ginny loved to travel, many times with the Flint Travel Club, and was proud to say that she visited every continent as well as many places in the U.S. Her last big trip was to Antarctica when she was 86 years old. Ginny enjoyed sewing, crafting, The Flint Symphony, theater, volunteering with the McLaren auxiliary, and having lunch with friends. Ginny had a long, rich, fulfilling life and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband. She is survived by her sons Robert (Bob) A. (Helen) Johnson, James L. (Lynda) Johnson, and daughter Susan (Mark) Rose. grandchildren; Robert A. (Lana LaFramboise) Johnson Jr., Michelle DeLano, Wendy (Luke) Reynolds, Jamie (Paul) Huizen, Betsy (Kenneth) Baker, Philip (Maggie) Rose, Thomas Rose, Marie Rose, and 11 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Woodhaven Senior Community, Homestead Home Health Care Services, and Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care they gave our mother.

Due to the pandemic, there will be a private, family graveside service.

Memorial donations may be offered to Court Street United Methodist Church.
