MERRITT, Paul D. - Of Clio, age 75, beloved husband, brother and uncle, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held 11am Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Seth Ferguson and Pastor Frank Beck officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Visitation 12-8pm Friday at the funeral home.
Paul was born in Flint on May 1, 1943, the son Alice and Leon Merritt. He was raised in Flint and lived in Clio many years. Paul served in Germany with the United States Army Medical Corp. Paul attended Genesee Community College. He married Elizabeth (Betty Ann) McCulley in 1964. They enjoyed life and spent many winters in Florida. They were active members of Trinity Baptist Church in Flushing. They previously attended Flint First Wesleyan Church in Flint. Together they owned and operated Alpine Cleaning, Merritt Corp, Alpine Hair Styling, Brides by Elizabeth and Elizabeth’s Assisted Living. For many years Paul enjoyed showing his Arabian horses. He loved music and he sang in a Barber Shop Quartet, loved playing his banjo and French horn. Paul was deeply loved by his nieces and nephews and loved teasing them. Paul will be deeply missed.
Surviving are wife, Elizabeth (Betty Ann);
brother, Richard (Barbara) Nye of Ann Arbor, MI;
niece, Kari Thoms of Florida;
sister-in-law, Wanda Blewett;
brothers-in-law, Gerald Waun, and Jack (Maria) Fry;
nieces and nephews, Mary Lynn Jakubielski, John (Maureen) Blewett, Lorne Fry, Gordon (Patty) Waun, Leland (Cathy) Waun;
and great-nieces and nephews, they all loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Leon Merritt, stepdad, Orval Betts, brothers, Woody, Leonard and Raymond Merritt, step brothers, Gary, Tim and Robert Betts.
