LUCE, William Alfred "Bill" - Age 70, of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at his residence, surrounded by his children, after a year-long battle from esophageal cancer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2013 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Fr. Dan Kogut celebrant. Entombment in the Mausoleum at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Thursday from 6-9 PM, Friday from 2-9 PM; and at Church Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. A Scripture service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 7:00 PM, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Knights of Columbus "Michigan Singing Knights" or Luke M. Powers Catholic High School Scholarship Fund.
Bill was born in St. Clair, MI to the late Walter and Evelyn (Kramer) Luce on November 1, 1943. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and was extremely proud to be a "COUGAR". He was married to the late Patricia(Plunkey) Luce on September 12, 1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Bill retired from Buick in 1991 after 29 years of service. His first 17 years with Buick were spent in the Foundry and the remaining 12 years he spent as a Foreman in Engine Plant 36. A devout Catholic, Bill served as a Eucharistic Minister, ministering to the sick and shut-in members of the parish. Bill was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 6694 in Swartz Creek and was a 4th degree member of Assembly 2211 in Flushing. He proudly performed as a first tenor with the Knights of Columbus Michigan Singing Knights and served as their president for two years. In addition, Bill was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2588 East Tawas. His hobbies included hunting, singing, and most importantly, the Michigan Lottery.
Bill is survived by his three children, Gregory and wife Stephanie of Sauk City, WI, Tim and wife Joni of Winter Springs, FL, and Laurie and husband Matt Thierry. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Luke and Beau Luce, Jacob, Kaitlyn and Aidan Thierry, and three step grandchildren, Denise Krein-Schroeder, Claus Krein, and Heidi Schroeder Martin. Bill is also survived by brothers, Tom Luce of East Tawas, CSM (ret) James Luce of Plainwell; step-sisters, Penny Cairnduff of Millington, Linda Whitehead of Lindon, brothers-in-law, Joseph Plunkey and wife Carole, George Plunkey and wife Linda and Paul Plunkey; sisters-in-law, Joan Dumler and husband Don and Janet Hamblin and husband Jeff. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Patricia "Pat" Luce; brother, Daniel Luce; nephew, Scott Plunkey; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
