Louis was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 10, 1932, the son of Angelo and Ida (Battestelli)Giampetroni and was a resident of Flint.

On August 23, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Assunta DiLegge, in Detroit.

Lou graduated from Wayne University in Detroit in 1954, with a degree in journalism. He started at The Flint Journal that summer in the Sports Department, moved to the city room covering the outlying areas and City Hall, spent ten years at the Court House (his favorite beat), and eventually retired as Night Metro Editor after 43 years. He loved to write his column, “All Over Town,” in the early 1960’s.

First and foremost was Lou’s love for his family. Next was his love for paddleball and golf. Known as the Godfather of Paddleball, he made a lifetime of friends through his involvement in sports: football, softball, blooper ball, tennis, basketball, hockey, bowling and waterskiing. He was an avid reader of short stories and comedy books. and loved doing crossword puzzles. He received his first camera when his children were born and never stopped capturing his life’s experiences through everyone around him. He leaves behind a great storyline of everyone he loved and made smile.
