Patrick "Pat" G. Ruddy

Born: 7/10/1953
Died: 9/17/2018
Age: 65
Community: Traverse City, formerly of Flint, MI

PATRICK “Pat” G. RUDDY, 65, of Traverse City (formerly of Flint) died Monday, September 17, 2018 at the University of Michigan Trauma Center. He was surrounded by his family. Pat was born July 10, 1953, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Gerald and Mary (Hughes) Ruddy. He attended Flint Central High School (class of 1971) and went on to become a highly-skilled HVAC technician, a career he pursued until he retired in 2008. Pat married the love of his life Debbie (Zizka) on July 30, 1977. They moved to Traverse City in 2006, where they lived by the bay. Pat was an avid hunter and went on many deer hunting trips with his lifelong friends. He enjoyed being on the water, took impeccable care of his beautiful flower gardens, and loved trying new restaurants with Debbie, his best friend. More than anything else, Pat loved his family. He was incredibly close with his sisters and brothers and hosted many get-togethers. He loved to cook and was always researching new recipes and techniques to share with family and friends. He was a regular at the local markets, had chef-worthy knife skills and he could grill anything to perfection. His mashed potatoes were legendary. Pat had a great (silly!) sense of humor and a deep, infectious laugh. He loved to tease his family and friends, especially his three grandchildren who adored him. Pat will be missed by so many. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Ruddy, son Nick (Erin) Ruddy; grandchildren Alex, Nora and Molly Ruddy; siblings Michael (Judy) Ruddy, Richard (Mary) Ruddy, Therese Foy, Mary Ann Ruddy, Colleen (Chris) Howes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Mary Ruddy, his daughter Michelle Ruddy, his sister Kathy Crane, and brother-in-law Rob Foy. Visitation Thursday 5-8 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Sharp Funeral Home, 6063 Fenton Road., in Flint, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
