PRENTICE, Jimmy Maurice – Of Flint, age 88, in the evening hours of August 1, 2019 answered the call of angels and went to be with God, surrounded by the love of his family, which was so very precious to him.
He joins in eternal rest his beloved wife, Wilma, his sweet daughter, Joanna Rae (Jody), who left them in 1963, his brother and sisters, his great-granddaughter, Rayna and many other loved ones who’d gone before him.
Jimmy was born in Davison, Michigan to Jim and Bessie Prentice on November 15, 1930. He married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Della Dickinson on July 16, 1949 in Flint and they went on to have five beautiful children and lived a simple, but happy life together until she passed in 1995.
His love, laughter and indomitable spirit will long be remembered as he touched many people during his 88 years. He loved silly jokes, rhymes and songs and could always make people laugh with a twinkle in his eye.
Music and jazz were great passions; everything reminded him of a song and he’d break out singing. He loved to reminisce about playing the trombone in marching band and listening to his brother Larry, a professional jazz musician, play.
Though he lived a humble life, he was also recognized as a hero when he saved the lives of 12 children during a shooting while working as a school bus driver.
Jimmy leaves his daughters, Jayna Stout and Jan Deckard; sons, Bryan and Roy Prentice;
8 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren to cherish his memory and continue his legacy.
Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Bristolwood Community of Christ Church, 1158 West Bristol Road, Flint.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bristolwood Community Church of Christ or charity of one’s choice.
