Robert James Buchanan, age 78, of Higgins Lake, died April 9, 2013 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM on April 23rd at Am Vets Post 13, 8009 N. AuSable Road, Roscommon, with Pastor Eric Kieb officiating.
Robert was born December 31, 1934 in Flushing the son of Grover B. and Emma M. (Burr) Buchanan. He had lived at Higgins Lake since 1991 formerly residing in Mt. Morris for 10 years, Mayville for eight years and Flushing. He married JoAnn Marie Bigelow on Oct. 26, 1957 in Flushing and was a safety director at GM Fisher Body-Coldwater Rd. in Flint for 24 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Am Vets Post 13 at Higgins Lake and the Mt. Morris Eagles. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict reaching the rank of Sp3 (T).
He enjoyed golf and watching sports, but most loved being with his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Grover and Donald Buchanan and sisters, Madelyn Snyder, Shirley O’Brien and Jacqueline Reese.
Surviving are his wife, JoAnn of Higgins Lake; son, Steve (Cathy) Buchanan of Traverse City; grandchildren, Kacey, Jaimee, Kileigh and Tyler; great-grandson, Austin and sister, Marilyn (Victor) Geyer of Ann Arbor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart or American Lung Associations.
Arrangements are being handled by Walsh Funeral Home in Roscommon.
