RENDER, Ivan R. – Age 83, son of Ira and Marion (Driver) Render, born on December 20, 1931, in Ovid, Michigan went to be with his Lord on August 7, 2015.
Ivan was a 1951 graduate of Hartland High School. He was married on December 10, 1952 to Eva L. Sparks and was deployed 10 days later to the Northern Islands of Japan during the Korean Conflict. He served in the 1st Calvary Division, 99th Field Artillery, stationed on Okida Japan for 18 months and was to be sent to Korea when the peace treaty was signed. He returned home to his loving wife, Eva, and they built a life together. In 1957 Ivan and Eva moved to Tyrone Township where he built them a home on Parshall Road and raised their children, Vickie, Pattie and Brian. Ivan worked at General Motors for 31 years and retired from the Tank Plant in Grand Blanc in 1992. Ivan and Eva traveled extensively during their retirement, their most memorable trip being an Alaskan land and sea cruise. After almost 51 years of marriage Ivan’s beloved Eva passed away in 2003. Ivan was a man of faith and served the Lord in many capacities. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fenton and enjoyed participating in many of their outreach programs such as the North End Soup Kitchen, and the Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. He was a former member of Tyrone Community Presbyterian Church, and served as ruling Elder and as their representative to the Presbytery of Lake Huron for 15 years. He was a member of Hartland Audubon Society for 42 years, worked as a support person for the Christian Ministries International Michigan/Ohio Concert Choir for 15 years and was a member of the Tyrone Township Historical Society for 21 years.
In 2006 Ivan married Mabel Rogers Holland, and they lived happily together for 9 years, traveling, enjoying gardening together and sharing their many interests, just celebrating their 9th anniversary on August 5th.
Ivan is survived by his loving wife, Mabel, his three children Vickie (Elvis) Straehly, Pattie (Scott) Arnold and Brian (Sylvia) Render; five grandchildren Kevin Render, Jamie (Mike) Wilhelm, Dillon Arnold, Kelly Render, Sarah Render; three great-grandchildren Olivia Render, Josh Wilhelm and Emily Wilhelm; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Render, Edith (Eddie) Kors, Beverly Sparks, brother-in-laws Charles (Maryellen) Rogers, Bernard (Norma) Rogers and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Hilda Vogt, Irene Haviland Greer, Margaret Martin and brother Archie Render.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM at Fenton First Presbyterian Church, 503 S. Leroy St., Fenton, Michigan on Monday, August 10, 2015. The family will receive friends Sunday August 9th from 2-8PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton and from 10AM until the time of service at the church on Monday. Memorials appreciated to Fenton First Presbyterian Church or Tyrone Community Presbyterian Church.
