of Flint, age 73, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday. Sam was born on September 17, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Russell and Martha (Turner) Thornell. He had an independent accounting practice in the Flint area for 23 years. After selling his practice in 1987, Sam worked in the Trust Department of Citizens Bank. Following retirement in 2000, Sam enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Sam is survived by wife of 53 years, Maureen; daughters, Victoria (Rick) and Cate; grandsons, Sam and Thomas; sister, Mary Susan (Pat); brother, Russell (Judie); aunt, Emily Story; and several nieces and nephews. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
