CHOATE, Roger Dale – Of Gaines, age 70, died Saturday, September 27, 2014 at his residence.
Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 12 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Roger was born in Lauratown, Arkansas on January 9, 1944, the son of Hershel and Arvella (Lewis) Choate and was a resident of Flint.
Roger graduated from Utley High School Class of 1961 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Roger married Sharon Gouine on December 6, 1969 in Flint.
He was a member of the Masonic Temple and the Michigan Bluegrass Association.
Roger enjoyed golfing, playing bluegrass music and spending time with his loving family.
He took great pride in escorting his granddaughters to “Daddy Daughter” Dances.
He was passionate about teaching musical instruments to his grandchildren.
Roger was a Supervisor for General Motors V-8 Engine Plant and Romulus Powertrain, where he retired after 40 years of service.
Surviving are wife, Sharon Choate;
sister, Emma (Garry) Savage;
daughters, Angel (Dan) McLaughlin,
Shandelle (Guy) Blondin and
Sabrina (Bobby) Grossi, all of Linden;
grandchildren, Drake, Brayden, Gabrielle, Eliot, Andelina, Skyler and Zandria;
numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister, Vastina Galloway; niece, Robin Harvey and nephew, Michael Holm.
