KOONTZ, Jerry George - Grand Blanc, age 69, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at University of Michigan Medical Center.
A Memorial Service will be held 1pm Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Jerry was born in Flint on October 23, 1947, the son of the late Marion Olvine Koontz and Dorothy (Maher) Wall. Jerry was a graduate of St. Michaels Catholic High School, Class of 1965. On December 20, 1969, he married Janet Miller of Flint. He graduated from Mott Community College in 1974 with an Associate’s Degree in Arts with honors and in 1975 from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts with distinction. Jerry briefly worked as a radio DJ (Jerry Kelly) for WKMF Radio station. He also was an ambulance driver for Zelley's Ambulance Service. After other various endeavors, he found his calling when he established Koontz Investigations in 1980. For 37 years Jerry did what he loved and he did it well, amassing a large business network. Jerry was upfront and forthright in how he conducted business. In his free time, he loved to cook and enjoyed good food. Jerry was an avid reader. He had two canine companions, Cocoa and Bailey that he loved very much.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Janet (Miller) Koontz;
daughter, Kimberly Koontz (USCG CDR Clinton) Prindle;
grandchildren, Eric, Connor and Breanna Prindle;
sister, Jane Congdon; sister-in-law, Madelon Spike (Dr. Richard Spike);
brother-in-law, Dr. Christian Miller (Renee);
brother-in-law, John Miller (Laura);
and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and many cousins.
The family would like to thank the amazing team of doctors and nurses at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Jerry received the best of care there and the family is eternally grateful. He was surrounded by his wife, daughter and nephew Shawn Groves at the time of his death.
