GREEN, Catherine "Kay" (Smith, Patty) – Of Swartz Creek, age 80, went to be with the Lord and family on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Brian's House of Davison. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 5176 West Court Street, Flint, Pastor Martin B. Watkins officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Green will be at the church from 10:30 a.m. Friday until the time of the service. Catherine was born in Flint, Michigan on April 13, 1931 to Harry E. and Angelina (LaRose) Smith. Kay graduated from St. Marys High School in Flint, Michigan, in 1949, and worked for Fisher Body #2 for three years. She married Harold Patty in 1952 and had three children, Marilyn Gillis, Harold Kenneth Patty and Merlene Black. She divorced Harold in 1977 and married Hughlan D. Green on October 1, 1977.
Kay started working at the Flint Board of Education in 1964, and retired from there in 1987, with 23 years of service. Hughlan and Kay moved to Skidway, Michigan after retirement, and Kay started teaching adult reading, while living there. Kay also did volunteer work at the cancer building, adjacent to the West Branch Hospital. Hugh and Kay attended Skidway Baptist Church for about 15 years, and then, transferred to Prescott Baptist Church, where they remain members. Kay also played the clarinet at Skidway and Prescott churches, while residing there. A necessary move was made in 2006, to live closer the children. Hugh and Kay were now attending Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, in Flint, Michigan. Surviving are husband, Hughlan D.; three children, Marilyn (Scott) Gillis, Harold Kenneth (Lorri) Patty, Merlene (Bill) Black; grandchildren, Steven (Chelsea) Gillis, Brian Gillis, Brittney (Robert) Kachelski and Eric Patty; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Kay was preceded in death by parents, Harry E. and Angelina Smith; daughter, Linda Patty; brothers and sisters, Russell Smith, Eunice Corcoran, Gertrude McGuire, Alice Smith, Amelia Congdon, Ernest Smith, Walter Smith, Yvonne Whitman, Therese Miller; Sister Mary of Jesus Crucified, Raymond L.
