Howard P. Blazo, Jr., 93, of Lapeer (formerly of Pontiac) died Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born November 21, 1920 in Pontiac to Howard and Dorothy (Lamb) Blazo. Howard graduated from Howe Military School, class of 1939. He spent four years in the US Coast Guard. He graduated from the US Coast Guard Reserve Officers Training School at New London, CT with the rank of Ensign after attaining the rank of Water Tender 1/c. Howard spent three of his four Coast Guard years aboard APA transports in both theatres of operations. He married Theresa Virginia Calvelli on December 20, 1944 in Boston, MA. Howard worked at Pontiac Motors before and after the war. He left Pontiac Motors to operate Howard’s Grill in Lapeer. He returned to GM in Grand Blanc in September of 1952. During his GM tenure, Howard served as shift superintendent - tool & die as well as other supervisory positions in both press and metal assembly. He retired from General Motors in 1981 as the superintendent of welding maintenance. Howard was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church. Howard is survived by children: Virginia (Randy) Laur of Fenton, Mike (Dee) Blazo of Metamora, Josie (Charlie) Hyde of Attica, Barbara (Darrell) Daenzer of Tawas, Angela (Brian) Carpenter of East Lansing, Louis (Star) Blazo of Attica and Cathy (Ron) Logan of Lapeer; daughter-in-law, Karen Blazo of Coral, MI; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jebb of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Rose Kirk of Lapeer as well as many, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Howard was preceded in death by his wife Theresa Calvelli-Blazo; son, Howard Blazo, III; daughter-in-law, Gwen Blazo; granddaughter, Michelle; brothers: Edward “Ted” Blazo and Richard Blazo and his parents. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00AM Friday, February 21, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer. Howard’s family will receive friends from 10-11AM at the church the morning of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Kelley Catholic School or American Legion Post #16.
