Karhoff, Valeria Erma- Of Flint, age 93 died August 25, 2012. After suffering a stroke 3 months ago, she passed away peacefully at home as she wished. Val was born November 26, 1918 in Ludington, Michigan, youngest daughter of Jerome and Valeria Rose Ptaskenski. She worked at AC during the war and was part of the women’s’ glee club. After marrying Norbert on May 27, 1950 she began her lifelong vocation as Mother, Grandmother of 9 and Great Grandmother of 9. Her children were always the focus of her love and attention. Five children in 7 years kept her busy. No one could pack one suitcase for 5 kids like she could! Long hot summer car trips were a Karhoff tradition, traveling in the station wagon throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. She loved a good game of Scrabble with her daughters and never tired of eating out with Norb. Wonderful memories will always keep her alive in the hearts of those who loved her. She was married 54 years to Norbert, enjoying traveling and metal detecting with him until his death in 2005. She is survived by son Norbert, daughters Krista and husband George Welte, Judy and husband Pat Welch and Debbie and husband Dennis Anderson, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Daughter Lynn died in 2004. She was also preceded in death by parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation Tuesday 2-8 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road with a rosary at 7. In State Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X, G-3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint until funeral mass at 11:00. Heartfelt thanks to Mariann (RN) and Chiquita of McClaren Hospice. Donations to McLaren Hospice, are suggested in lieu of flowers.
“Mom, when we were little, you sang a song to us, a wish for the ‘wings of an angel.’ We know you got your wish and you are still watching over us.”
