JOUBRAN, Julia A. – Of Genesee, age 86, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 4133 Calkins Road, Flint, Father Pierre Bassil officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. An Incense Service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Joubran will be at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday.
Julia was born in Belhaven, North Carolina on August 26, 1926.
She met Tom at Mansour Market, where she was a bookkeeper.
On December 1, 1952 she married Tom Joubran in Flint.
They opened their first store in 1953 in Genesee.
Eventually the Joubran family constructed a new supermarket that they would eventually sell to Russ Van Gilder of VG’s.
Julia and Tom turned their talent for promotion to the Mikatam Lounge, named after their children. Together they built Pineview Estates. Julia and Tom over the years employed hundreds of people.
She was very instrumental in operating their businesses.
She was an angel and fought cancer for three years.
Julia is survived by her son, Michael and wife Theresa Joubran;
daughters, Kathy and husband Robert Hicks,
Tami and husband David Karpelenia;
grandchildren, Thomas, Juliana, Jerald, Tamira, Morgan, and Daria;
great-granddaughter, Addison Marie;
brother, Frederick and wife Regina Nimer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, on January 26, 2012; parents, Mikel and Bertha Nimer; brothers, Edward and Joseph Nimer.
