Carey Daniel Bastian, age 40, of Kingston, MI passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 with his family by his side at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI
He was born February 9, 1979 in Saginaw, MI, son of Ed and Bonnie (Schrinert) Bastian. Carey graduated from Kingston High School with the class of 1997. He then attended Saginaw Valley State University where he was a Dean's List student. Carey received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2004 and his Master's Degree in Elementary Education from SVSU in 2010. He taught in Florida for three years before moving back to Michigan. Carey taught eleven years at Bay City – Essexville Elementary School. He went on to become the principal at Verellen Elementary School in Essexville for two years. Carey was honored as the 2014 Elementary Teacher of the Year in Bay City. He enjoyed golfing, camping, driving his jeep, and spending time with family and friends. Carey was a Michigan State University Football fan and loved the fall season and Halloween. He also loved fireworks and the Fourth of July.
Left to cherish Carey's memory are his son, Fletcher Bastian; parents, Ed and Bonnie Bastian; brothers, Mark (Deb) Bastian, Bron (Amber) Bastian; sister, Tammy Muxlow; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and faithful friends, Eric Thompson and Shawn Willis.
Carey was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Alan Bastian; brother-in-law, Chris Muxlow; grandparents, Nicholas and Cathrine Bastian, Ruth Westfall, and Mike Schrinert; and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Kingston Elementary School Cafeteria 3644 Ross St., Kingston, MI 48741 with Pastor Paul Rohling officiating. Memories and fellowship will follow the service until 5 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund in care of Bonnie Bastian.
