Bertha E. Elsworth age 91, of Henderson, MI, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI, on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Charlene Wagner officiating. Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
Bertha was born in St. Charles, MI on February 29, 1928, the daughter of Edward and Hattie (Hopkins) Souden. She graduated from St. Charles High School with the class of 1946. On February 16, 1948, Bertha married Jay Elsworth in Angola, IN. She and Jay owned and worked side-by-side at Rollhaven Skating Rink in Grand Blanc from 1955 until 1989. Jay preceded her in death on January 8, 2017, after nearly 70 years of marriage.
Bertha was a great seamstress, as well as, an extremely gifted cook. When she wasn't gardening or canning, Bertha begged Jay to take her fishing. She was a very active member of Chapin United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Bertha is survived by three children: Roger (Hope) Elsworth of Davisburg, Richard (Rebecca) Elsworth of Goodrich, and Kathy Elsworth-Mahaffy of Grand Blanc; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, and a brother.
