Alison Kay Kangas, age 81, of Holly, Michigan passed away at home with family by her side on Friday, May 24, 2024, after a battle with ALS.
Alison was born on November 11, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Alonzo and Wyllis (Blair) Talovich, the 4th of 5 children. Alison graduated from Redford High School in 1961 . She married her high school sweetheart, Dick Kangas, on July 7, 1962. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was a Christian, growing up in the Church of God, singing in the choir with her sisters and brother throughout her childhood. She shared her faith, raising four daughters, and loved being a mother most of all.
Alison was the business owner of SRO, a women's clothing boutique, in Brooklyn, MI. In addition, she volunteered throughout her life in various capacities like PTO president at her daughters school and Sunday School teacher. She made friends wherever she went and loved the opportunity to get together whether it was coffee hour at church and friends in the neighborhood or a grandchild's birthday. She enjoyed boating, camping and shopping. She loved the water and in recent years, Alison and Dick enjoyed camping throughout lower Michigan.
Alison leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of sixty-two years, Richard Evert Alfred Kangas; children Alison (John) Doane, Angela (Scott) Weaver, and Heather (Chris) Steggall; son in law Tony Lasher (Lisi Decampos); grandchildren Samantha (Robert) Wood, Alison Doane (Tim Brash), Brad Doane (Catherine Noonan), Joe Weaver (Kaitlyn Shariak), Emily Doane, Jacob Lasher, Sean Steggall and Marcus Steggall; great-grandchildren Joey Weaver, Jr. and Zachary Wood; siblings Joyce (Charles) Archibald and Wyllis Schenk; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Alison was preceded in death by her daughter Beth Lasher, parents Alonzo and Wyllis Talovich, parents- in-law Alfred and Dorothy Kangas, sister Helen Kingery, brother Mel Talovich, sister-in-law Carol Talovich, brothers-in-law Victor Kingery III, Jack Schenk, niece Kaylynn Kingery and nephew Jeffrey Kingery.
A funeral service for Alison will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church of Flint - 746 Saginaw Street, Flint, Michigan 48502 with visitation one hour prior. Family will have a private burial for Alison at Square Lake Cemetery, Lake Orion, MI.
