BURR, James Cecil “Pop Man” – Of Byron, Michigan, age 64, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Mahlon Heatwole and Reverend Boyd Knicely officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the James Burr Memorial Fund, c/o Linda Burr, PO BOX 262 Byron, MI 48418. Visitation 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. James was born in Hillman, Michigan on November 28, 1947, the son of Cecil and Isabelle (Ellsworth) Burr. He was the oldest son of seven children. He graduated from Hillman High School and attended Mott Community College. He married Linda (Grimwood) Burr on November 25, 1967 in Flint, Michigan and recently celebrated his 44th wedding anniversary. Mr. Burr was employed by Fisher 1 and Buick City, as an AR Man. During his tenure there, he also sold pop to his co-workers. After retiring from General Motors, with 31 years of service at the age of 48, he became president of Janitorial Supply Solutions. He was an avid walker, enjoyed biking, and never met a stranger. He served as an elder and Sunday School teacher at South Flint Mennonite Church. Surviving are wife, Linda;
four children, KrisAnn Burr, James Burr Jr., David and Michelle (Lipe) Burr and Ross Burr; four grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan, Isaac and Gavin; four sisters and two brothers, Margaret Gohl, Richard and Deanna Burr, Rosemary and Art Nash, John and Karen Burr, Gloria Hart and Cindy Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Isabelle Burr. Special thanks go to Dr. Hukill of Genesys Hospital and Cancer Center of America for their care over the last several years.
