COOK, Joseph E. - Of Flint, age 83, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 11a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Carl Petty officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation 1-8p.m. Tuesday and 10a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Joseph was born in Tennessee Ridge, TN on June 26, 1927, the son of the late Porter and Stella (Irwin) Cook. Joseph served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 and received a Bronze Star. He married Laura Gibson and she preceded him in death in 1984. Joseph was a member of Central Baptist Church. He loved tinkering on watches and clocks and enjoyed going to the casino. Surviving are son, Charles and wife Tamara; Grandchildren, Melissa and husband Rob Linker, Michael and wife Julia Cook; Great-grandchildren, Isabella, Leah and Isaiah;
Sisters, Jeanette Bigham, Bettye and husband Virgil Mobley, Georgia and husband Vincent Holley;
Special friend, Wanda Rea; Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and David. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com
