McQuarters, William A. – of Birch Run, age 84, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. A memorial service will be held at 7 PM, Monday, November 9, 2015 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 3 PM until time of service at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Proceeds will be used to establish a scholarship fund for Birch Run Seniors pursuing a degree in music.
Bill was born October 13, 1931 in Flint, Michigan to the late William and Emma (Detzler) McQuarters. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran with four years of active duty. Bill graduated from Pan American College (now University of Texas). After graduating from college, Bill came to reside in Michigan; there he married Shirley Sutto on October 9, 1959 in Birch Run. Together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He was employed by Birch Run Area Schools for 34 years as band director. Bill enjoyed traveling, playing the saxophone, and working on his lawn. Most of all , Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are: 5 children: Bill (Cathy) McQuarters of Fenton, Christopher (Robyn) McQuarters of North Carolina, Lori (Thomas) Danks of Birch Run, Lisa Sperling (Steve Kocsis) of Saginaw and Michelle (Hugh) McQuarters of Montrose. 18 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
