DONOVAN, Kenneth E. – of Clio, age 87, joined his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Monday, August 24, 2015 at Clio Church of the Nazarene, 8499 N. Dort Hwy in Mt. Morris. Inurnment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 25 at 1:30 PM with military honors. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10AM until time of services at 11AM. Contributions may be made to the Clio Nazarene Church.
Ken was born September 3, 1927 in Clio to the late Matthew and Evelyn (Hultquist) Donovan. A member of America’s greatest generation, he joined the Navy upon graduation from Clio High School in 1945, where he lettered in Football. He also has the distinction of being an Atomic Veteran, having witnessed 10 atomic weapons tests in the Pacific shortly after WW II. After a series of jobs, he began his professional banking career with Genesee Bank. Serving 40 years, he rose through the ranks achieving the position of Vice President. He was an avid outdoorsman and Trout fisherman. Skilled with a fly rod, he fished many of Michigan’s streams for over 50 years. In 1998 he achieved a lifelong dream by fishing the Yellowstone River outside of Bozeman Montana. In his retirement he continued his fishing pursuits with his dear friend Frank in Florida. Ken first displayed his artistic talents by becoming a Master Gardener. At the age of 60 he discovered a hidden talent as a wood carver and bronze sculptor, which would become his passion in his later retirement. He was a member of the Clio Art Society. He and his works were well known within the local art community. Ken was a Christian and member of the Clio Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Harriet Donovan. He has 2 sons: Ken Jr. (Cheryl), Rick (Jan); 2 daughters: Kaye Ann (Ian) Riddell, Susan (Kirk) Blandford; a loving and proud Grandfather of 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Coming from a large family of 7 brothers and sisters, he is survived by sisters Lucille and Margie.
