LYON, Mary Ellen – of Flint, age 82, passed away April 4, 2018 at Genesee Care Center. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, G-5199 Richfield Rd., Flint; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Burial will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Owosso at 3 PM Saturday, April 7, 2018. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mary Ellen was born in Owosso, MI on May 24, 1935, daughter of the late James and Helen (Fischer) McCarthy. She graduated from St. Paul Catholic School in 1953. Mary Ellen married Jerry Sumner Lyon on June 20, 1959. Mary Ellen was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a longtime member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church where she enjoyed her 50 and over group. She was a member of East Side Senior Center and enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary Ellen worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, Jerry Sumner; children, Geraldine Bates, Edward (Kristina) Lyon, James (Cheri) Lyon, Mary Zinn, Maureen (Mark) Bollwitt and Brad Lyon; grandchildren, Jason (Amber) Lyon, Melady (Rick) Like, Nicholas Lyon, Tyler Lyon, Shelbie Lyon, Soraya Lyon, Blake Lyon, Halayna Bollwitt, Quinlan Bollwitt; six great-grandchildren; brother, James (Kim) McCarthy. She was preceded in death by Baby Girl Lyon.
