Martha Alexander, age 92 of Holly died on Friday, July 26, 2019. Visitation will be on Thurs, Aug. 1, 2019 at the Dryer Funeral Home from 2-9 with an Eastern Star service at 7:00. The funeral service will be held on Aug. 2, 2019 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Holly at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Cliff Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at Rose Center Cemetery following the service.
Martha was born in Port Huron, MI on July 25, 1927 to Donald and Edna (Watson) Turner. Martha is survived by her children: Shirley (Ronald) Brendel, Jim (Cindy) Alexander, and Bruce (Kim) Alexander, 8 grandchildren: Kristina (Ben) Eggenberger, Cyndi (John) Ball, William (Katie) Brendel, Cara (Eric) Dovre, Emma Alexander, Cory (Cara) Alexander, Christopher (Tiffany) Alexander, David (Stephanie) Alexander, brothers; William (Sue) Turner, A.J. (Lois) Turner; sister-in-law Bernice Phelps, Doris (Joe) Alexander; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Alexander, Sr., brother and sister in law, Jim and Nancy Turner, and sisters and brothers in-law, Donna and Tom Scott, Muriel and Melvin Higgins, Margaret and Chuck Kidd, also brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Janice Alexander, Russ and Joyce Alexander, Donna Alexander, Gladys and Dave Kitchen, Donald Alexander, and Betty Alexander.
Martha graduated from Holly High School, class of 1947. She married her high school boyfriend, James Joseph Alexander soon after. Together they built their forever home and raised their family of three. She worked at a few jobs and retired from Holly Spring where she was a machinist.
A faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church, she sang in the choir for many years. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star wherein with her sister, served as an Oakland County officer.
True enjoyment for Martha came in the form of family and good friends. She loved visiting with the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, always interested in their accomplishments. She treasured time spent with her 6 siblings as well as extended family and loved a family gathering with lots of food and happy chatting, shouting “Bunco” when playing with her Bunco Club, and win or lose she loved her Detroit Tigers.
The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care given to Martha and the family by the team at Genesys Ascension Hospital, the Dryer Funeral Home, and Blumz By JRDesigns Flowers of Holly.
