ZITTEL, David – Of Grand Blanc, age 81, died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Abbey Park Independent Living.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Glenn Grant officiating.
Per David’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kirkridge Presbyterian Church.
Visitation 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
David was born in Pontiac, Michigan on January 6, 1935, the son of the late Frederick and Emma (Gorte) Zittel.
David married Beverly Munro in 1956, while he completed his BA from Alma College. Captain of the Alma College baseball team he was inducted into the Alma College Hall of Fame in 1977.
He graduated in 1957 from Alma College and in the same year became a Teacher in Atherton Schools until 1959. During his time as a Teacher, he completed his Masters from U of M Ann Arbor.
David then became Principal at Atherton from 1959-1979, after retirement he opened Zittel’s Final Score in Grand Blanc, retiring in 2013.
He was an active member of Kirkridge Presbyterian Church and an avid sports fan.
Surviving are sons, Gary (Lanell) of Novi,
Steve (Tara) of Fenton,
Jeff (Lynn) of Grand Blanc and
Mark (Tracey) of Phoenix, Arizona;
grandchildren, Brent, Nikki (Tyler), Mallory, Anna, Jeffrey, Scott, Brooke, Nathan and Andrew;
great-grandchildren, Jackson and Haiden;
brother, Fred (Sally) of Pontiac.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Beverly, on November 1, 2009.
