Eldon “Dick” R. Russell, age 87, of Oscoda, Michigan, formerly of Mt. Morris, Michigan passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Tawas City, Michigan. He was born March 12, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to the late John and Mabel (Whipple) Russell.
Dick met his wife of 68 years, Bernadine Goldsmith while bowling and they married September 29, 1948. Together they have three children; daughter, Mary Anne (Harold) Davenport of Oscoda, Michigan; daughter, Margie Anne (Alfred) Boss of Fenton, Michigan; son, Richard L. Russell of Clio, Michigan; four grandchildren, Aaron (Nikki), Deanna (Marc), Julie and Alfred; eight great-grandchildren, Connor; Seanna, Adam, Allison, Ashley, Justin, Rachel and Alfred; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and James Russell and half-brother, John LaDuke.
Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood-working of all types, card playing with family and friends, and vacationing in Lewiston, Michigan. He was a long time member of the Lions Club and most recently the American Legion (SAL). Dick was employed by General Motors in Grand Blanc for 30 years in Skilled Trades retiring April 1, 1982.
Dick and his good friend, Jerry Erickson, were known in his Oscoda neighborhood as the “Snow Angels” when they would clear many driveways with their snow blowers during the winter months.
