FITE, Donald D. – Age 83, - of Flushing, died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Heavenly Acres Assisted Living. Mr. Fite was born November 8, 1927 in Gladwin, MI the son of Gerald and Mayme (Jungman) Fite. In 1943 Don joined the Merchant Marine, serving until the end of W.W.II in the Atlantic, Pacific and the Mediterranean. Don loved hunting and fishing and spending his weekends at his cottage on Secord Lake. He played football in high school, enjoyed all Michigan Sports and after retirement played baseball in Florida with a senior league. Don retired from Hostess Bakery where he worked as a Truck Driver and was a member of the Teamsters. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his children, Janet (Steve) Handley, Timothy Fite, Michael (Mary) Fite; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sheila) Cannon, Jennifer (Chris) Locey, Justin Cannon, Steven Fite, Shauna Fite, Cori Fite; great grandchildren, Bradyn, Lauryn, Drew, Sophia and Luke; brothers, Victor (Marge) Fite, Robert (Ginny) Fite; sister, Donna (Frank) Sheltrown. Mr. Fite was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou, April 30, 2011. The family would like to send special thanks to Terrie and the staff at Heavenly Acres, and Shelly and Connie with Home Town Hospice. As were his wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
