Patricia Ann (Shaffer) Fox was born in Owosso on May 27, 1924, the only child of Louis Charles Shaffer and Bertha Marie (Cassidy) Shaffer.

Pat graduated from Owosso High School in 1943, and earned a B. A. in economics from Marygrove College in 1947.

During high school, Pat worked at the Christian’s and Kresge’s stores in Owosso. During summers of her college years, she worked at the Ellis Insurance Agency in Owosso. Following graduation, Pat worked in the offices of Owosso’s Carparts Corporation, and later as a copywriter and marketing researcher for the A. G. Redmond Company. She also did marketing research for her husband’s company, W. R. Fox, Inc. Beginning during the mid-1970’s, Pat worked part-time at Chuck & Ester’s Health Food Store.

Pat was a life-long member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She and Wilfred R. (Bill) Fox were married there on June 10, 1950. With the exception of her time away at school, and during 1954 when the Foxes lived in Detroit, Pat lived her entire life in Owosso.

Like her parents and grandparents, Pat absolutely cherished Owosso. She frequently said that she thanked God every day for being able to live in such a wonderful city with such wonderful people. She also prayed every day that Owosso would always be protected.

During the 1960’s and 1970’s, Pat was a Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteer. She served as auxiliary service chairman for the Pediatrics Department, and in 1976 she served as president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also wrote and produced Meow ?an audio/visual presentation that was shown to children prior to surgery, in order to calm and prepare children for surgery. Her concept was later adopted by other hospitals in Michigan.

Pat was a member of St. Paul Church’s Altar Society, and she served for a term as its president. Pat taught CCD, was a lector, a minister of the Eucharist, and for years she held services every Sunday at the Griffin Home for the Aged. She and Mary Kulhanek co-founded the Spirit of the Living God Charismatic Prayer Group, and the Owosso St. Paul Prayer Network, to which Pat devoted decades of service.

Pat was a past member of the Owosso City Club, the Owosso Country Club, and she served as social and publicity chairman for the Owosso chapter of the American Association of University Women.

Pat was endeared for her spirited intellect and wit, her grace and her kindness, and because, no matter what else going on in her life, she was always helping others.

Pat is survived by five children: Shaffer Fox of Owosso; Mary Ann Mosher of Birch Run; Patrice (Mark) Dillow of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; Erin (Jeff) Markel of Kalamazoo; and Mark Fox of Owosso. Pat had seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three nephews. Pat was predeceased by her father and mother who died in 1965 and 1973 respectively, her husband who died in 1986, her daughter, Sherry Illeen Gorman of Ada, who died in 2011, and her great-grandson, Radd Carlton, her daughter-in-law and son-in-laws, Kelly (Rainey) Fox and Hank Mosher and Mark Gorman, and her sister-in-law, Eleanor (Rene’) Fox.

The Fox family gives heartfelt thanks to Pat’s many dear friends, past and present, to Mrs. Georgia Williamson who helped care for Pat at home, and to the magnificent staff of Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. The loving and professional care she received was excellent and will be forever appreciated.
