McMILLIN, James L. – Of Grand Blanc, age 81, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones at his residence.
Visitation 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, Chaplain Adam Doyle officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Indian School, 1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57326 or Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor.
James was born in Paragould, Arkansas on November 25, 1932, son of the late James and Lillian (Rowe) McMillin and grew up in Green County, Arkansas. He moved to Flint as a young man.
On December 18, 1956 he married Sara Jane Matney, the love of his life. They were married 57 years.
He attended Flint Central High School, where he played football. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. McMillin embraced his Native American Heritage and he was loved by so many people.
He was an avid golfer, loved playing poker, reading, gardening, boating, fishing and wintered in Florida.
Mr. McMillin worked at GM Chevy-Metal Fab for 36 years.
Surviving are wife, Sara Jane;
two daughters, Candace (Brian) Hetherington, Kelly Friday; his only grandchild, Collin James Friday and brother, Carl McMillin.
