Helen Ann O’Callaghan of Flushing, age 87, died Thursday August 27, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with multiple health challenges.
Helen was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 18, 1933 to John and Ada (Pamerleau) Cunningham. She spent the first 10 years of her life in Detroit. Following the untimely death of her father in 1944, Helen and her mother moved back to Alpena Michigan where she graduated from Alpena High School in 1951. Following her graduation Helen moved to Washington DC to pursue an aviation job. She was forced to return to Alpena to help her mother with health and job needs. Her return to Alpena was good news for the future husband Patrick O’Callaghan who she married on January 5, 1957 and this year they celebrated 63 years together.
Helen was an only child and was particularly intent on having a large, loving family. She and Patrick raised four children in Flint and Flushing. Helen relished the time with her kids and grandkids and family events particularly Christmas Eve.
Helen pursued a long and successful real estate career in the Flushing area and was an active member of St John Vianney in Flint.
Helen loved to travel the world and see new things. When her health allowed, she and Pat travelled the world and took numerous tours and cruises. Over the last several decades, she and Pat split their time between their homes in Flushing, Nokomis, Florida and a cottage in Gladwin.
She loved to laugh and have a good time. She was a wonderful caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Helen had a long, loving and successful life and her footprints will be felt for a long time. Helen was preceded in death by her father (1944), mother (1974) and her son Timothy this past May.
Helen is survived by her loving husband Patrick O’Callaghan; children, Patrick (Deborah) O’Callaghan, Jr., Michael (Carol) O’Callaghan, and Maureen (Richard) Panone; and many grandchildren including Kaitlyn O’Callaghan, Andrea Casler, Kim Henson, Nolan O’Callaghan, Sean O’Callaghan, Aiden O’Callaghan, Daniel Panone, Nicholas Panone, Christopher Panone, Jessica Panone and great grandchildren Devyn Henson, Shelby Henson and Gavyn Henson.
•Viewing-9:30-11:00 with Mass at St. John Vianney in Flint on Monday, August 31st at 11:00 AM.
•Burial to follow at Flushing Cemetery.
•If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center.
