PALENTYN, Thomas “Deutschmon” - Of Flint, age 66, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, in the presence of his loved ones.
Funeral service will be held 2pm Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Elder Jay Hagar officiating.
Visitation 5-8pm Friday, 1-8pm Saturday and 12pm Sunday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association.
Tom was born in Berlin, Germany December 31st, 1951 to Heinz and Sybille Palentyn. Tom came to Flint, Michigan in 1959. As a teenager Tom enjoyed his friends, partying, and tennis. It was at the tennis courts where Tom would meet the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Ann (Huffman) Palentyn. Tom and Ann lived in Flint, and had one daughter, Erica. Tom attended the General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, which led him to his lifelong career with General Motors where Tom worked Information Technology. Tom loved life and lived it the fullest. Tom and Ann enjoyed traveling together to Europe, and across the US and Canada. Tom was always helping others and would do anything for anybody and expected nothing in return. Tom retired on his 65th birthday after his health started to decline due to ALS.
Tom leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ann (Huffman) Palentyn,
daughter Erica (David) O'Toole of Mt. Pleasant, MI,
parents Heinz and Sybille Palentyn of Grand Blanc,
brother Clay (Deborah) Palentyn of Cookeville, TN,
brother-in-law David Huffman of Flushing,
nieces and nephews Nicole, Eric, Alexander, and Alesha, and countless friends.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Green Acres Assisted Living, in Mt. Pleasant, MI for their above and beyond care for Tom in his final days.
He was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Martha Huffman.
