Cecil Vernon Richard, born in Stoddard County Missouri on 7-30-1937 to Earl and Dorothy (Hatchel). He was greeted in heaven by a host of loved ones on 9-15-2017.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Bud Welton officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Cecil’s family moved to Michigan when he was a boy and he grew up on Augusta Street in Flint Township. He graduated from Utley High School in 1957. Cecil was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving both in Germany and here in the States at Fort Knox in Kentucky. While stationed at Fort Knox in 1962 he met and married the love of his life, Sandra Edlin. They made their home in Flint on Augusta Street where they raised five children. Cecil and Sandy spent many years competing in the world of Ballroom Dancing. Cecil found his calling as a skilled Journeyman Millwright, serving his apprenticeship at General Motors Flint Metal Fabricating and retiring from there with 44 years of service. Cecil was a proud member of UAW Local 659.
Surviving are;
Children: Joseph Alan (Sheila), Cecil Anthony (April), Earl Jonathan (Shawn) and Stacey Marie;
Grandchildren: Jason, Stephanie, Samantha, Brandon, Emily, Gretchen and Victoria;
Great-grandchildren: Sofia Rose;
Sisters: Vera (Frank) Davis and Sula (David) Harwood;
Brother : Roy (Kirstie) Richard.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, youngest son, James Leslie, parents Earl and Dorothy and step-mother Nan.
