Joyce was born on July 28, 1925, in Marquette, MI., to the late Joseph and May (Lemere) Lynch. She was raised in Marquette until the age of ten when, following the death of her mother and Aunt Phoebe, she came to live in the Flint area. After graduating from Flint Technical High School in 1943, she met her love, George S. Prieur, and they were married on October 23, 1948 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. As Joyce and George began their life together, so did their life’s devotion, their family. Together they had four children, and nothing made Joyce more proud than her children.
Joyce found strength in her faith when she was widowed in 1973, and started a career with the Flint School Board as a teacher’s aide in Special Education. She touched many young lives during her years of dedicated service. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Parish of Flint, and was active in both the Alter Society and the East Side Soup Kitchen. In 1997, Joyce moved to Davison, MI. and became part of St. John’s Parish. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and had many dear friends. She leaves her family with lots of advice and words of wisdom that will be remembered and quoted throughout their lives, for she was wise beyond her years.
She will be especially remembered for her quiet strength of character, willingness to always listen, her remarkable ability to remember personal things about everyone she met, and her eternal optimism that always instilled hope for a better tomorrow. Her greatest legacy is she always made people feel important, that she touched so many lives in a positive way, and most important, she taught so many people the importance of a hug.

Her family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of nurses and caregivers at The Oaks of Woodfield in Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Convalescence and Rehab Center, and Genesys Hospice and Hospital, for the impeccable care Joyce received. Many people enter and exit our lives, but it is a select few who become part of us while guiding us towards who we are meant to be. As our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Joyce was our inspiration, and she was woven into our lives with a bond of unconditional love. Her family will continue to keep her legacy alive though the many words of wisdom, quotes and advice she provided throughout the years. If not for she, we would not be, and we are grateful for her devotion to each of us.

She is survived in life by her son, Thomas; her daughter Mary Ann Carmody, and husband Mark; her daughter Nancy, and (like a daughter) Marilyn and husband Dave Butler. Daughter-in-law Susan Prieur; Grandchildren; Jerry and wife Tequila; Michael; Nicholas and partner Jerome Toney; Jennifer Witten and husband Peter; Amy Kordyzon and husband Kris; Joseph Prieur and wife Katie; and always her granddaughter, Payton Blackhurst; Great-grandchildren; Hunter, Holden, Alanna, Austin, Cohen and Aiden.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, her son Jerry, her sister Mildred Morris; her brothers Edward, Joseph, Lowell, Donald, Richard, Gerald, and Mark Lynch.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Genesys Hospice.
