TROUTMAN(BARBEE), AMILEE – Of Flint, age 100, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at The Villages of Lapeer.
There will be no service held.
Was born and raised in Shannon, Mississippi. She was the eleventh child of Arthur and Cliffie (Hill) Barbee. At the age of 15 she ran away from home and married railroad Pullman Bremen Jones, and they had a son, Samuel O’Neal in 1939. After a failed marriage and the loss of a second son, Amilee relocated to East St. Louis, Illinois, where she began working at Armors Meat Packing Company.
While working there, she met her second husband, Napoleon Hines, they married in 1951 and had a daughter, Janet Vernice in 1952. Another failed marriage, and the closure of Armors Meat Packing Company. She relocated once again to Flint, Michigan and began working at Hamady Brothers Food Markers. In 1968 she was hired by General Motors (Fisher Body). She married a third time, James Troutman, in 1967. He passed away in 1977 and she remained a widow.
Amilee was a resident of The Villages of Lapeer Nursing Home from August 2020 until her death. Amilee’s most joyous times was visiting and socializing with family and friends in Flint, St. Louis, Chicago, Ohio and Mississippi.
Amilee was preceded in death by mother, father and all twelve of her siblings and her son, Sam, whom she never knew had passed away in September 2020 and a host of nieces and nephews.
Amilee leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Janet (Jesse) Davis; daughter-in-law, Beverly Jones; granddaughters, Jennifer (Mark) Mallory, Tracie Johnson, and Stephanie Jones; two great-grandchildren, Skyye Johnson and Ashton Mitchell.
