Timothy James MacDonald, affectionately known as TMac, Papa, Dad, and Brother, passed away at the age of 66 on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. The funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 30, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc, MI. Visitation will be held from 3-7pm, followed by a Rosary from 7-8pm on Wednesday, May 29, at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc, MI. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, The Sorin Society of Notre Dame or The Flint Golf Club in memory of Timothy J. MacDonald.
Tim was born on November 23, 1957, in Flint, Michigan. He was the beloved husband of Ami (George) MacDonald, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. The two grew up together and attended Powers Catholic High School.
A dedicated and accomplished attorney, Tim followed in the footsteps of his late father, Robert J. MacDonald, as a Worker's Compensation and Social Security Disability attorney and partner at MacDonald, Fitzgerald & MacDonald. He was highly respected in his field and an active member of the Genesee County Bar Association.
Tim graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1979 and went on to earn his law degree from Cooley Law School in Lansing, MI. A passionate sports fanatic, Tim loved all Detroit teams but was especially loyal to the Fighting Irish. He was known to tailgate at Light Post 3 and attended 45 consecutive Michigan State vs. Notre Dame football games.
His love for sports extended beyond football; Tim was the chairman of the Genesee County Allstar Golf Invitational for over 10 years and a lifetime member of the Flint Golf Club. Whether on the golf course, soaking up the sun, or enjoying the Harry Barrett Grille, Tim's presence was a cherished part of the club.
Northern Michigan held a special place in Tim's heart. He found joy in catching sunsets on the lake, floating in his two-man raft, spending time with friends at Torch Lake, and skiing at the Otsego Club in winter. His passion for music, particularly Bruce Springsteen, was unparalleled. Tim attended 24 of his concerts and always dreamed of being part of the E Street Band.
Above all, Tim loved his family and friends deeply. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ami, and their children: Tim MacDonald Jr. (Katie), Kelly, and Courtney Bullock (Ben). He was the proud Papa of his grandchildren, Lauren and Trey MacDonald. Tim is also survived by his siblings Chrissie Hudgens (Stephen), Pat McGonigle (Michael), Brian MacDonald (Ginny), Amy Simon, Mary Luxem, in-laws Bruce Vick and Jackie MacDonald, and dozens of cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Tim is also survived by father-in-law Victor E. George, Sr.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Madeline MacDonald, and his siblings Marcia Vick, Duncan MacDonald, Stephen MacDonald, and brother-in-law James Luxem.
Tim was a vivacious individual known to light up any room he entered. He was generous, family-focused, hardworking, and deeply respected by all who knew him. He was quick to remind you to live each day to the fullest.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at the University of Michigan Hospital for their outstanding compassionate care. A special thanks goes to Dr. Ketti Petersen for her exceptional knowledge and empathy during his final days.
Tim will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his vibrant spirit and humor, his love for his family, and his zest for life. “May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the rain fall softly upon your fields until we meet again, And may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.” God, Country, Notre Dame.
