GROVOM, Richard G. – Of Grand Blanc, age 89, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road, Grand Blanc, Pastor Robert Scott officiating.
Inurnment of cremains at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research, Faith Lutheran Church or Heart to Heart Hospice.
Visitation 3-8 p.m. Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mr. Grovom will be at the church 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.
Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on May 7, 1927, the son of the late Alexander and Oravilla Grovom.
On January 6, 1979 he married Isabel at Faith Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Grand Blanc, member of the Men of Faith Club, was the head Usher and Teller.
Mr. Grovom was a proud member of the U.S. Army and was an Honorably Discharged Veteran. His name is listed in the Congressional Record in Washington, DC, for having donated 42 gallons of blood in his lifetime.
He was also given the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award by the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce for his donation of blood.
Mr. Grovom was an avid golfer and a member of the "Wobblies."
He enjoyed family get togethers, cards, traveling and flower gardening.
Mr. Grovom was a Tool & Die Foreman at Chevrolet Plant 38 for 37 years, retiring in 1982.
Surviving are loving wife, Isabel;
adoring daughters, Karen (Dennis) Case and Kathy (Steve) Rienstra;
step-son, William Maurer;
two step-daughters, DeAnn (Gary) Solgat and Karlene Craig; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother, Donald (Twyla) Grovom; sister, Joyce Koza and step-sister, Norma Wentworth.
