POPILEK, Leon Casper – of Burton, age 91, passed away October 12, 2018 at his residence. A Funeral Liturgy will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Rev. Fr. Carl Simon officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM - 8 PM Friday and 10 AM until time of service on Saturday. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Leon was born in Flint, MI on January 6, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Annie (Dzuik) Popilek. He married Betty Jane Avery on January 10, 1948 and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2009. Leon proudly served his country with the Sixth Marine Division from 1944-1946. He worked at General Motors as a Tinsmith, retiring in 1987 after 39 years and he was also the owner of Domestic Heating.
Leon is survived by his children, Ronald (Sally) Popilek of Grand Blanc, Dennis (Barb) Popilek of Chesaning, Alan (Kris) Popilek of North Carolina, Robert (Cindy) Popilek of Burton and Cynthia (Randy) Childers of Corunna; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; sisters, Francis, Grace, Eva and Annette; brothers, Art, Ed, Jerome, Ray and Dan.
