Marion Louise Williams, age 94, of Wheeler and Ellsworth, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Stonecrest Assisted Living in Freeland. She was born on October 7, 1929, in Saginaw, the daughter of Miley and Jeanette (McVannel) Near. She was a graduate of Breckenridge High School. Marion married the love of her life, Laurien Lee Williams on September 7, 1946, in Angola, Indiana a blessed union of 72 years, until his passing in 2018.
Marion worked for many years in the accounting department at Dow Corning in Midland, Michigan, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Ellsworth Lioness Club. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, snowmobiling and downhill skiing. She was an excellent seamstress. She loved walking on the beach and looking for Petoskey Stones.
Marion is survived by six children, Barbara Ross of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kathy (Bill) Wertz of Midland, James (Frances) Williams of Wheeler, Susan Morrison of Americus, Georgia, Laura (Jim) Acton of Ludington, Jane (Dave) Grondin of Paradise; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her siblings, Dick (Alice) Near, Ruth Klischer, Janet Brannan, Marie (Ron) Sellers; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurien; a grandson, Brian Ross; and her siblings, Marjorie Near, Dorothy Hargrove, Helen Ann Near and John Near.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 11 am at Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge. Interment will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 am until the time of services at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Transitions Hospice 6907 Westside Saginaw Rd. Suite 8 Bay City, MI 48076. |
