ALDRICH, Fred Louis -- Age 92, of Linden, died August 24, 2012 at his residence. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 28 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Interment in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday.
Fred was born January 19, 1920 in Detroit the son of Fred W. and Bessie C. (Cleckner) Aldrich. He had resided in Linden most of his life and was a 1937 graduate of Linden High School. He married Helen Louise Comstock on May 17, 1939 in Linden and she preceded him in death October 15, 2004. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Fenton VFW Curtis Wolverton Post 3243. He retired from GM in 1981 with 26 years of service as a Metal Pattern Maker. He was a bandleader, keyboard player, and banjoplayer. Fred led several bands throughout the years, including the Dixieland Riverboat Band at the Linden Hotel, and lastly Freddie and the Old Timers. Surviving are: three children, Fred E. and wife Brenda Aldrich of Swartz Creek, Richard D. Aldrich and Joseph Sablan of Kalamazoo, Judith Aldrich of Davison; six grandchildren, Rick Aldrich, Randall and wife Angela Aldrich, Angie and husband Steve Hill, Bethany Fenton, Annette Richards, and Steven Richards; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Stanley Aldrich of Fenton, David Aldrich of Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen; daughters, Karen Faris in 1993, and Lorraine Richards in 2011; brother Mert; and sister Betty Lou.
