COOK, Louise Marie (Hartley) – of Grand Blanc, MI, age 99, went to her eternal home in heaven on Sunday, October 7, 2018, with family by her side. Her body is young again and she has met her Savior and many loved ones. She has spent her entire life preparing for this day and she is home. Her journey is complete. Her family will miss her dearly, but she has taught us all how to love Jesus and how He loves us.
A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Friday, October 12, 2018 at Davison Free Methodist Church, 502 Church Street, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Glenn H. Teal officiating. A Private Interment will take place at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI. The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Friday, October 12, 2018 at Davison Free Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison Free Methodist Church Music and Worship Fund, in Louise’s memory.
Louise was born in Circle Hill, Athens County, OH on July 21, 1919, daughter of the late Darrell Jay and Mary Edith (Robinson) Hartley. She gave her life to Christ at a very early age and was baptized at the age of 8 in the Pilgram Holiness Church. She was a graduate of Libbey High School in Toledo, OH Class of 1937 and loved English. Louise became a member of Lincoln Park Free Methodist Church in 1945, where she attended for 60 years. She served many roles, including organist, pianist, choir director, secretary and many others. In 2005, Louise relocated to Burton, MI and attended the Davison Free Methodist Church. Louise began her working career as a bookkeeper. She retired as a legal secretary, working for two law firms, Mixter and Mixter in Lincoln Park, MI and Kersten and Budds in Flat Rock, MI.
She was devoted to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Louise was a gifted seamstress, homemaker and genealogist.
Louise is survived by 2 children, Joy Hendershot Poole and David (Julie) Hendershot; 6 grandchildren, Adrienne (Scott Prince) Poole, Emily Hendershot, Christopher (Addie Schnurbusch) Poole, Ellen (fiancé John Budaj) Hendershot, Rachel (Joel) Schneider and David Hendershot II; one great-grandson, Daniel Schneider and one sister, Lois (Joe) Sawyer. Also survived by stepdaughter and her family, Susan (David) Sheppard, Stacey (Daniel) Ratcliff, Courtney and Brooke and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Shirley Hendershot; her second husband, Hersie “Buddy” Cook, Jr.; 5 siblings, Paul Hartley, Helen Pierce, John Hartley, Mary Alice Stark and Max Hartley.
