BENDALL (Pastor), Linda O. of Grand Blanc, age 61, died March 25, 2020. A private burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, and a celebration of life will be scheduled this summer. Those desiring may make contributions to Rettsyndrome.org.
Linda was born in Flint, Michigan on August 1, 1958, the daughter of the late Alexander Pastor and Patsy (Jeffries) Pastor. She graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1976. Later, while pursuing a degree in physical geography at the University of Michigan-Flint, she met a man named Gary in a course on children's literature. She loved to tell the story of how they met-he asked for her help on an assignment about Pinocchio and somehow managed to get a better grade than she did. They married Oct. 20, 1983.
She held a variety of jobs over the years. As a teenager, she helped care for her grandparents' horses in Mundy Township. As an adult, she worked at Hudson's, Meijer, Grand Blanc Community Schools and Hallmark. Most importantly, she was a devoted caregiver to her eldest daughter, Amanda, who has Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that impacts her ability to walk, talk and use her hands.
Linda loved games and was a serial contest winner. At 14, she won to go to the U.S. Virgin Islands. At 37, it was Disney World. This past summer, she won a spot in a contest that involved hitting a tee-ball at Comerica Park during intermission at a Tigers' game. She was so excited that she bought her own tee-ball set and practiced every day for months in preparation.
Needless to say, she knew how to find joy in the little things. She always volunteered to drive friends and family to and from the airport. She signed each text message to her kids, "Love, Mom."
She had a strong sense of conviction. When a man swindled money from her grandmother and several other people back in the '90s, she was the one who led the charge against him. Thanks in large part to her persistence, he was sentenced to several years in prison.
Surviving are her husband, Gary Bendall, and children, Amanda Bendall, Elizabeth (Emil) Joseph, and Nathan Luke Bendall. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda Bendall; aunts and uncles, Helen McCarney, Julia and Jack Williams, Steve and Delores Pastor, and Louis and Eileen Pastor; and several cousins. She also leaves behind three cats, Diego, Rosie Posie, and Bartleby; and two grandcats.
Her family will miss her very much and would like to thank Dr. Sattar, Dr. Pandrangi, Dr. Shaqfeh, Dr. Peram, Dr. Enzler and the staff at Kindred Hospice for the exceptional care they gave Linda in her final months.
