Harold George Branstner, age 93, of Flint, entered into Glory on Thursday, October 17, 2024. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 28, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Home, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Monday. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Carriage Town Ministries.
Harold was born on December 6, 1930 in Flint, the son of the late Fred and Katharina (Beyerlein) Branstner. He graduated from Flint Central High School, class of 1949. After attending Taylor University, Harold enlisted into the United States Navy, proudly serving as a medic during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. Harold and Carolyn Swanson began dating while at Taylor University. They fell in love and were united in marriage on September 26, 1953 in Amery, Wisconsin. They were blessed with 3 children. Harold worked for the family business, starting as a bricklayer and advancing to President of Branstner Construction until his retirement. He later began a second career as a building inspector in several townships in the Flint area. Harold was a long time member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church until it merged with Hope United Methodist Church. He held many roles in the church including Sunday school teacher, choir member, and lay minister. He most recently attended Central Church of the Nazarene. He loved spending time with his family, including fishing and golfing with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ever the competitive athlete, he participated in church softball leagues, and continued playing all the way into his late 80’s while wintering in The Villages in Florida. In his younger years, Harold enjoyed playing paddle ball and was the Seniors National Champion in both singles and doubles.
He is survived by the love of his life of 71 years, Carolyn; children, Lynn (Edward) Breen, Lori (Dave) Buhler and Barry Branstner (Tammie), grandchildren, Matthew Breen, Leslie Breen Hamilton, Ryan Breen, Amanda Hughes, Erin Culhane, Elyse Branstner, Elaina Branstner; and 14 great-grandchildren.
