WRIGHT, Arlene Marjorie – of Clio, age 91, died Friday, October 21, 2011 at Avalon Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Court Street United Methodist Church, 225 W. Court Street, Flint. Rev. Robert D. Wright officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7 PM and on Monday from 1-4 PM and 5-8PM. Visitation on Tuesday at the Church from 10AM until time of Service. Contributions can be made to the Court Street United Methodist Women.
Arlene was born August 10, 1920 in Byron Michigan to Bernice and Charlie Meier. Born on a farm, she moved to Flint when she was seven years old, after her father took a job with Buick. She was a 1938 graduate of Northern High School and married William A. Wright on February 17, 1945 at Court Street United Methodist Church, Flint. For their honeymoon, she and Bill headed out West pulling a small trailer. Over the next year they lived and worked in California, Arizona, Kansas, and Wisconsin as they headed home to Michigan. They lived in Flint where Arlene worked for Sears Roebuck for 25 years, retiring as the Supervisor of the Auditing department. Following retirement ,she traveled extensively with Kerr Travel, often accompanied by her good friend Evelyn Beals. She loved her neighbors and spent many happy hours with them. Arlene was active in the United Methodist Women and American Business Women organizations, serving as President for both.
She has one daughter, Christine Wright of Clio. She and Christine lived together and shared a wonderful life, not just as mother and daughter, but also as best friends. She also leaves her nephew, David Meier, great nephew Jeremy Meier, his sons Ian and Joshua and niece, Ann Meier all of Florida. Love and thanks to close friend and "second daughter", Patricia Handy, and Arlene's special buddy, Pat's dog "Jake". Thanks to the staff of fourth floor Surgical Care Unit and Acute Dialysis at McClaren Hospital for great care and support. Special thanks to everyone at Avalon Hospice. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, her parents and her brother, Weston A. Meier, of Florida.
