Lorraine Sphanke, 94, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, went to be with her Lord & Savior on May 24, 2019. She was born in Detroit, MI on June 22, 1924, to the late Alfred and Gladys Johnson. Lorraine moved to Lapeer at the age of three and attended Lapeer Community Schools and then she married Arthur Sphanke in 1941. Lorraine worked as a seamstress at the Vesley Company for 14 years. Before and after her employment she enjoyed babysitting her family's children.
She was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer and had a strong faith in God. She enjoyed spreading God's word to the members of her family and encouraged them to develop the same relationship that she had with the Lord. Lorraine and Arthur enjoyed traveling across the country. Whether it was out west, Canada or Florida, they always had to find the best fishing spots to stop at. Lorraine was known for her love for family, her kind heartedness, loving personality and her signature group hugs. She will be deeply missed.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Vicki Hebberd and Laura (John) Bringer; five grandchildren, Jamie (Damien) Pung, Jennifer (Jim) Strzynski, Joshua Bringer, Greg (Ashley) Bringer, David (Nicole) Bringer; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Theodore Johnson; sister, Shirley Starr.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Arthur Sphanke; son-in-law Jim Hebberd; grandson, Erin Hebberd; and her brother, Wayne Johnson.
Friends may visit with Lorraine's family on Monday, May 27th from 4-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 28th at 12:00 Noon at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. Pastor James Sheldrake will officiate.
