Joseph Foster Hardy, age 75, of Flushing, MI, passed away on May 25, 2024, at his home. He was born on December 22, 1948, in Flint, MI, son of the late Lester and Geraldine (Huff) Hardy.
Joseph was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the Air Force for several years and later the National Guard in Alaska, where he had a home from 1977 to 2023. Before and during that time, he also lived in the Kalamazoo area, Sacramento, California, and Madrid, Spain, before moving back to the family home in Flushing in the early 2000s.
Joe was a licensed contractor, though he often referred to himself simply as a finisher, and earned his degree from the University of Michigan-Flint. He married the love of his life, whom he’d known since high school, Becky Feke, on May 1, 2024, at their home, his own childhood home in Flushing.
For Joe, life was an adventure. He ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, climbed Mt. McKinley, and lived in a custom-converted boxcar while in Alaska, where he was known as "Boxcar Joe." He loved the outdoors and his many dogs. Joe was known for collecting antiques and unique tools (in the tradition of his parents). He was there for family, friends, and neighbors — always lending a helping hand without being asked. Joe will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Becky; son, Zachary Kinnee; stepson, Renny Marquez-Feke; sister, Sue (Tony) Gully; niece, Cathy (Don) Tyldesley; nephew, Chuck Wilkey; niece, Mindi (Philip) Espinosa; and nephew-in-law, Jeremy Kuhne. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and John Kleckler; nephew, Keith Wilkey; and niece, Whitney Kuhne. |
